US Media: China is the world leader in industrial automation

April 05, 2023

Where is the concept of industrial automation most commonly accepted? US media said that it is not the United States or Europe that China is leading the world. China is a “manufacturing automation country” and is no longer a low-cost labor supplier.

According to the “Value Walking” news website on March 19th, the demand for manufacturing automation has been continuously increasing. It is China that has fundamentally promoted the growth of this demand. The Chinese economy accounts for less than 15% of the global economy, but it has The demand for automation technology is more than twice this number.

A report from HSBC pointed out that nearly one-third of all manufacturing automation demand is expected to come from China, and its CAGR is expected to be 21%, while North America's growth rate is expected to be 7%.

HSBC’s researchers Helen Fang, Michael Hagman, Richard Schramm, and Anderson Zhou described China as an “automated country,” and they pointed out that China’s demand for robots “is rapidly growing”.

According to reports, at present, there are an average of 69 robots per 10,000 workers in the world and it is estimated that there will be 150 robots per 10,000 people by 2020.

According to reports, as China's labor force ages and expects higher wage levels, they are no longer low-cost producers in the region. With the help of government policies, support for automation is driving companies like Apple to build factories in the region. Apple CEO Tim Cook told the Fortune Magazine summit that he likes to combine "artisan skills" with advanced robotics.

According to the report, in China, automation-related manufacturers have a “strong lineup”, but the road to industrial automation is not easy. HSBC's report pointed out: "Although China's demand for industrial robots is still rising sharply, the nature of the market is changing. With the new industry following the automation trend, the road to automation has become more and more in-depth and broad."

HSBC pointed out that Chinese auto companies are the main buyers of industrial robots, but the automation trend is spreading to electronics, semiconductors, smart factories, logistics, household appliances and electric vehicles industries, and these robots are currently mainly from Japan.
