Chat robot provides psychological counseling services for unemployed employees
The size of India's IT outsourcing industry is as high as $154 billion. However, due to the rise of automation technology and the difficulty in obtaining US work visas, there has been a wave of layoffs. McKinsey estimates that nearly one-third of the 4 million employees in India's IT services industry will be eliminated in the next three or four years. According to reports, online psychological counseling startups have attracted many Indian IT practitioners for help because they are convenient, anonymous and reasonable, and most use human therapists. Puneet Manuja, founder of the psychological counseling company YourDOST, also experienced work pressure before. Although he graduated from the computer science department of the top engineering school with a high score, he could not find a job right away, and was rejected by six companies including Yahoo! and Adobe. Richa Singh, who later became his wife, was troubled by suicide by his friends and worried that he could not find a job. A few years later, when they met a technology company, they shared their experiences and discussed how to help people who are depressed and stressed. YourDOST started as a blog. The two later established a digital platform with a network of psychologists and psychiatrists. Normal face-to-face consultation costs thousands of rupees, while YourDOST voice chat costs only 400 rupees ($6.20) and video chat costs 600 rupees. The company provides services 24 hours a day, and currently offers more than 2,000 consultations a day. In the summer of 2017, during the peak period of IT outsourcing unemployment, YourDOST set up a toll-free hotline to provide comfort and advice to anonymous callers. During the consultation period, many men’s emotions collapsed, and college students regretted choosing engineering majors. They kept asking, how can we cheer up and save the work. A young unemployed woman lie to her parents who are still at work. A male engineer was fired a few weeks before his marriage, not to let the future father-in-law know. In January 2017, another husband and wife team, Ramakant VempaTI and Jo Aggarwal, launched the chat robot Wysa. Wysa uses natural language processing to understand and classify conversations and respond with solutions designed by the therapist. Wysa will listen without judgment and guide the user to think positively. The conversation feels natural and true. All consultations are anonymous and free. According to the quarterly review of Wysa's chat content, unemployment and work-related chats have become the second hot topic. The company earns revenue by licensing AI technology to corporate customers, global insurance companies and healthcare providers. Juno Clinic, a startup company founded by three entrepreneurs who mostly stay in the IT outsourcing industry, provides online consulting services to customers. Online chat is free of charge, voice and video chat are charged, and 28 therapists accept Assist in the specialized training of the unemployed. Juno co-founder Davesh Manocha said that intervention is very important, otherwise anxiety and depression caused by work may deteriorate rapidly.
