1. Retrieve lost OneDrive icon

Get back through the system settings:

Enter OneDrive in Cortana and click "OneDrive Desktop App" in the search results. The gray OneDrive icon appears on the desktop taskbar, right-click on the icon and select Settings. Click the "Add Account" button in the "Account" tab, add your own Microsoft Windows account and log in (Figure 1). Then select the "Start OneDrive when I sign in to Windows" option under the Settings tab (Figure 2).

Get back by resetting the cloud disk:

Press Win+R to launch the Run dialog and execute the following command:

The system will then automatically begin reinstalling OneDrive (Figure 3).

After installation, OneDrive requires the user to log in with a Windows account. Also select "Automatically launch OneDrive when I log in to Windows" in the settings.

2. Prevent OneDrive from automatically uploading files

When you save a photo or document, photos and documents are automatically uploaded to the OneDrive cloud if you use Windows 10's default save location. In this way, once the Windows account is compromised, the photos or documents in it leak out. By modifying the registry, you can limit the cloud's automatic upload feature to prevent the disclosure of personal files.

Enter the REGEDIT command in the Cortana dialog box, and then select the run command REGEDIT to enter the registry editor interface. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}". In the right pane, locate the System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree entry. Double-click this entry to open the settings window. Change the numeric data from 1 to 0 and click "OK" (Figure 4). After you restart your computer, OneDrive won't automatically upload when you save the file.
